Event description

Description

A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. As we move to Smart Cities, Smart Grid, and the Internet of Things (IoT) is are these complex systems making us potentially more vulnerable to cyber intrusions and power outages?

Hear author, Marc Elsberg, who will showcase his techno-thriller book, Blackout, and from other presenters on cybersecurity and grid resiliency. Berlin-based Elsberg will be visiting the DC area to promote his book which has been just been translated from German into English. His novel illustrates modern society’s interdependencies and vulnerabilities, dramatizing the consequences of a weeklong blackout caused by a hacker attack against European and U.S. power grids. Marc worked for many years as a creative director in advertising. You’ll also hear from:

  • Paul Feldman, former Chairman of the Midcontinent ISO (MISO) and a former Board Director of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and Board member at AMP Electric, Opus One, and EnergySec; and

  • John Morrill, Arlington County Energy Manager.
