Learn the basic energy efficiency concepts and technologies behind this evolving industry

Are you interested in maximizing the energy efficiency potential of your facility but unsure about basic energy concepts and how they impact savings? APS and the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) are offering an Energy 101 class as part of our 2017 Energy Efficiency Technical Training series. This training explores the fundamentals of energy, the utility's role in distributing electricity, building energy systems and more.

Attendees of this full-day training will:

  • Understand the fundamentals of energy and power
  • Discuss a utility’s role in electricity, from generation and transmission and distribution to the end use of electrical energy
  • Explore the basics of building energy systems and how they consume energy
  • Review energy efficiency concepts and how they relate to building systems
  • Use energy efficiency concepts to calculate energy savings of a basic systems project
  • Become familiar with the rebates offered by APS

Instructors

Wayne Dobberpuhl, P.E., CEM, is a project manager for the APS Solutions for Business energy efficiency program. He is a registered professional engineer (P.E.) in Arizona and a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) with over 35 years of energy and design engineering experience. Mr. Dobberpuhl's background includes program development, power plant design, energy consulting and project management. He coordinated and instructs CEM training classes for the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AZAEE), where he is a past president. Mr. Dobberpuhl received the Region V Energy Professional Development of the Year award in 2011 and 2017 from the AEE.

Michael Green, E.I.T., CEM, LEED-AP, is a program manager for the APS Solutions for Business energy efficiency program. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) with 13 years of energy and project management experience. Mike’s background ranges from program development to energy engineering and project management. He has project experience in sports venues, hospitals, data centers and education. Mike helps coordinate the CEM training class for the Arizona Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers (AZAEE). He is the President of AZAEE.

Dave Munn, P.E., LEED-AP, is president of David Munn Consulting, PLLC. An engineer for more than 42 years, he has extensive field experience in HVAC, energy conservation and building sustainability. Mr. Munn received the 2009 Region V Energy Engineer of the Year award from the AEE. Mr. Munn is registered as a P.E. in the states of Arizona and Hawaii, and is an LEED-accredited professional. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Chapter of AEE (AZAEE), served on the technical committee for the Central Arizona Chapter of the US Green Buildings Council (USGBC), and was the chairman of the Green Buildings Committee for the Phoenix chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).
