Presented by Skip Vogt, M. Div., M.A., a member of Gilda’s Club who has been involved in end-of-life issues for nearly 40 years.
Compassion & Choices is an organization dedicated to empowering people with information and tools to receive healthcare that is consistent with their values and priorities as they approach the end of life. C&C advances policies that allow people to make fully formed decisions about their healthcare, whether it’s improving hospice and palliative care or ending unwanted medical treatment. This upcoming discussion focuses on the newly enacted California Medical Aid in Dying Act. We will go over the requirements and procedures for someone who chooses to end their own life peacefully and on their own terms. It will also cover the experiences in Oregon, which has had this option in effect for nearly 20 years. And we will stress the necessity of discussing your end-of-life decisions with your proxy decision maker — and especially your primary care physician as soon as possible — no matter what the current state of your health. There will be an opportunity for Q&A.
This event is open to the public.
