Topic: Exploring the Energetics of Death and Grief

Death and grief are undoubtedly the biggest challenges to body and soul we will ever experience. These processes are physical, emotional and spiritual, and they are connected. But how? Can we understand more about how bodies and relationships change together through these great changes? Actually, we can.

Many spiritual traditions describe subtle energetic bodies which they say pulse through and around our physical body in life. In this workshop we will explore how psyche and spirit evolve in tandem with the body through death. Jeanne will offer a new map to the terrain of dying that helps us see it as essential to our vitality. We will consider whether thinking about energy helps us better understand dying, grieving and ordinary living. This work emerges from her experiences of many years at the bedside as a hospice worker, healer and a somatic psychotherapist.

Jeanne Denney is a transpersonal and somatic therapist, a hospice worker, healer, teacher and founder of Pilgrim SoULL (School of Unusual Life Learning). Jeanne has spent years at bedsides, contributed pioneering ideas to somatic psychology, death and grief work, and has been deeply involved with creating the Art of Dying projects in New York City. She is also the author of a research project and book entitled The Effects of Compassionate Presence on the Dying.

Jeanne’s radical teaching about energy and the body helps students and clients understand themselves as natural, and become aware of how life and death processes work together through human development, including aging, illness, grief and dying. This work provides a bridge between somatic (body-centered) psychotherapies and the practices of death workers. Her ideas are derived from a wide lens of human experience and deep understanding of our mortal journey.
