Almost all successful service systems rely on backstage services. We are excited to present Eric Najjar and Ruben Ocampo, two leaders in service design that are focusing on designing and implementing the enabling services for small business wholesale and large-scale manufacturing systems.
Service Start-ups for Wholesale
Eric Najjar is the CEO of Shop Ketti, a wholesale community for pet supplies. He will talk about small business solutions through the lens of a bootstrapped startup, discussing the constraints (financial, time, and skill), which ultimately decide the course not just of the startup, but of the service itself. As well as the dilemma of adjusting a service designer toolkit in an "Ugly Startup" while trying to win the chess match of funding and vetting to deliver a valuable service. Eric holds a BFA in Service Design from the Savannah College of Art & Design.
Service Design in Manufacturing
Since the 1980’s, manufacturers have been turning their product offerings into services, creating recurring revenues from what would otherwise be a one-time transaction. While many manufacturers of more traditional products have been slow to adapt, these manufacturers find themselves at a crossroads today often struggling to differentiate their offerings against global competitors. During this talk, Ruben will share how manufacturing companies who embrace a service design mindset can design their unique value propositions and create meaningful relationships with their end consumers.
Ruben Ocampo is the Founder of Conic Group. He is a designer and strategic facilitator who helps leaders imagine and enact visionary change by engaging them in a purposeful and meaningful dialogue with their end customers and the people responsible for executing this vision. He has worked with large clients across several sectors, including government, manufacturing, logistics, infrastructure, workspace solutions, hospitality, banking and financial services in the areas of organizational strategy, innovation management, and stakeholder engagement. Ruben received Master degrees in both Business Administration and Human-Centered Design from the IIT Institute of Design.
