Description

Do you want to learn how to create pottery while helping to end local hunger?

Have you ever wanted to learn to work with clay? Do you enjoy helping your community?

Join Under The Horizon Pottery and Arts Studio, in conjunction with, The Gleaning Project, to get a back-stage pass to the clay bowl creation process.

Student artists, in a period of 4 weeks (3 visits), will aid the studio in creating bowls for the Empty Bowls event on Saturday April 22nd, 5pm-7pm at the Gettysburg College Plank Gymnasium.

Workshop Dates and Details: (1 tickets covers all dates)
Cost: Deeply discounted workshop. $30 for all 3 classes. Attendees can enjoy 1, 2, or 3 classes. Same price if attending 1 or all.

Saturday, March 11th from 2 to 3:30pm

  • Max 10 student artists
  • Discussion of the Empty Bowls movement and event
  • Discuss throwing
  • Learn clay preparation
  • See a throwing demonstration
  • Sample throwing

Saturday, March 18th from 2 to 3:30pm

  • Max 10 student artists
  • Discuss trimming
  • Aid in detailing bowls

Saturday, April 1st from 2 to 3:30pm

  • Max 10 student artists
  • Discuss glazing
  • Learning proper technique
  • Glaze
  • Discuss firing
  • Team wrap-up with plans to attend the “big” event on April 22nd

    What is Empty Bowls?

    It is a fundraising dinner! For $20, get a handmade pottery bowl, and a delicious soup and bread dinner. After eating, enjoying live music, and having a great time, take your bowl home to remind you of those who remain hungry in our community. All goods are donated by local artists, restaurants and bakeries, and all proceeds benefit The Gleaning Project.

    Under The Horizon (UTH) is a Christian oriented and community-minded studio specializing in all things creative while inspiring creativity. We believe creativity, in all forms, is necessary for a healthy and fulfilling life.

    What is The Gleaning Project?

    The Gleaning Project is a local non-profit component of South Central Community Action Programs Inc. that works with local farms, volunteers, and hunger relief organizations to collect excess produce and get it to our hungry neighbors.
