Event description

Description

February is right around the corner, and that means scores of great soups for a great cause is right around the corner, too. As many as 20 of the Bastrop area’s leading restaurants and caterers are expected to join the Bastrop County Emergency Food Pantry in producing the 14th annual Empty Bowl Project on Saturday, Feb. 24. This annual event is a much-loved local favorite and provides key financial support to the Food Pantry.

Between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., each attendee in this “battle of the ladles” will select a pottery bowl decorated by a student artist and sample delicious offerings from area chefs. The more than 600 people expected to attend will also help decide “bragging rights.” Celebrity judges will determine winners in each class — soup, stew or chili — while attendees will vote on their “fan favorite.”

Please note that this year’s event will take place at the Bastrop Convention Center rather than at the Bastrop High School cafeteria, where it has been held for many years.

Tickets are $20 per person for all the soup you want to sample, a colorful soup bowl decorated by budding student artists, and family-favorite cookies. Children 12 and under eat free. Tickets go on sale Jan. 24 online at www.bastropfoodpantry.org and will also be available at the door during the event.
