Description

Join Same Sky as we talk with CNN's Alisyn Camerota about what it's like to be a journalist in today's hyper-charged world of broadcast nwes, what "truth" is, the daily struggles of journalists to get it right in a ratings-driven climate and why toxic work environments are no longer being tolerated.

Alisyn will also discuss her novel Amanda Wakes Up, which was selected by NPR as one of the best books of 2017, offers a behind-the-scenes pek of a fictional morning show -- a blur of breaking news, big scoops, and colorful personalities. The protagonist, Amanda Gallo, takes the reader into the TV trenches, as she lands a plum gig at a big-time cable news station, and quickly learns her dream job is a minefield of ethical and personal dilemmas.

Same Sky was founded by Francine LeFrak in 2008 to bring opportunities and resources to genocide survivors in Rwanda. Over the last 10 years, Same Sky has expanded to working with formerly incarcerated women in the US and helping them find a renewed sense of purpose. Each piece of jewelry is produced by an artisan in Rwanda or the US and 100% of the net proceeds are reinvested into growing Same Sky's initiatives.
