Event description

Description

The Empowered to Connect Conference equips families, churches, and professionals to better serve children impacted by adoption and foster care through practical teaching in a safe and supportive community. It features Trust-Based Relational InterventionⓇ (TBRI) methods developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, to help bring attachment and connection in families. The content is ideal for current and prospective adoptive or foster parents, as well as anyone serving and supporting children and families, such as social workers, agency professionals, church staff and ministry leaders, counselors, teachers, and therapists.

FAQs

Is there an age limit to enter the event?

Yes. Participants must be 16 years of age or older.

Is childcare available?

Childcare will be available onsite for the children of foster, adoptive, and kinship care families. Please indicate childcare needs in your registration notes on or before April 20th.

What can/can't I bring to the event?

Computers, IPADS, and cell phones are allowed; however, internet access will be restricted to insure that there is sufficient bandwith for simulcast streaming. Please download the simulcast guide prior to the event.

What does my registration include?

Your registration includes the 2-day simulcast, certificate of training, and lunch.

What are the viewing guide options?

Free downloads of the guide will be available in March. Registrants will receive a link to the guide for printing or viewing from a computer, ipad, or other mobile device. Downloads must be done prior to the event, as wifi will be limited.

Can I register for one day only?

Registration is for both days of the event, as the training is most beneficial when viewed in its entirety. In the event that an attendee is unable to attend both days, we appreciate your letting us know so that the correct number of lunches can be prepared.

Can I cancel my registration?

Seats are limited, so in the event that you are unable to attend, please cancel through eventbrite or contact mmm@restorationrome.org to free up space for someone else.

Do I have to bring a printed ticket or receipt to the event?

Only those registering for professional CEUs (NOT foster parents) will need to bring the registration sheet provided when they visit the linked site to register and pay for professional credits.

Are foster parent training hours available for participation?

Each parent will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of each day. Attendees are responsible for providing the certificate to their agency, and it is at the agency’s discretion whether or not to count participation toward training credits. To be eligible with your agency to receive training credits, each participant will need to turn in to their agency a copy of each certificate.

There is no need to sign up for adoptive/foster training credit. Although the awarding of training hours is at the discretion of the agency through which a family fosters, this training consistently meets the criteria of fostering agencies.

Are CEUs available?

Yes. The simulcast is approved by the National Association of Social Workers for 5.5 continuing education contact hours on Friday (Approval #886649357-2702) and 5.5 continuing education contact hours on Saturday (Approval #886649357-2703). Although this conference is not pre-approved by other accreditation organizations, previous attendees of various professions (e.g., teachers, doctors) have received CE credit for this event. Please explore options with your accreditation organization before registering or email etcconferences@showhope.org with specific questions.

Continuing education registration and details for NASW credits are available at www.etccontinuingeducation2018.eventbrite.com. Each professional interested in receiving hours and a professional certificate is required to register and pay a separate fee at that site and complete a post-test successfully. Please bring your CE registration confirmation to the event and be sure to complete the required sign-in and sign-out sheet each day. E-mail links to post-tests will be sent out following the conference. The post-tests must be completed by the date noted with a score of 80% or above for the certificate to be generated. NASW Certificates will be emailed within 4 weeks if all requirements are met.
