Event description

Description

Buckner Rio Grande Children’s Home and Calvary Baptist Church will host training to empower Hidalgo County educators, families and professionals to better serve children impacted by adoption and foster care.

“Empowered to Connect” is open to all those who work directly with children impacted by adoption and foster care, including educators and school district staff, social workers, professionals with child placement agencies, families and church staff. It includes practical teaching in a safe and supportive community. The conference features Trust-Based Relational Intervention® methods developed by Dr. Karyn Purvis and Dr. David Cross from the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development at TCU to help bring attachment and connection in families.

Empower to Connect is a simulcast training on April 5 and 6, 2019. Training lasts from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm each day and is located at 1600 Harvey Street in McAllen. Please register through eventbrite.

Workbooks for the conference will be sold for $5.00. Snacks and drinks will be provided to attendees, but not lunch. For more information, call Veronica Olson at (956) 585-4847.

“This training will help adults better serve children who have experienced trauma in their lives,” said Nelida Tristan, director of foster care and adoption at the Buckner Rio Grande Children’s Home. “It is essential knowledge for teachers, social workers, and foster parents and adoptive parents.

“Buckner Rio Grande Children’s Home and Calvary Baptist Church are proud to once again offer this conference free to everyone interested in our community, so we can all grow stronger.”
