Calvin's Career Center's annual Employer Conference is a great opportunity for professional development. This year's event will feature:

Dr. Sarah Visser, Ph.D., VP for Student Life, Calvin College
Topic: Career Management - How to manage your own career and promote career management in those you supervise

Dr. Visser provides leadership of the Student Life division at Calvin College. Dr. Visser has also served as chair of the Department of Leadership and Organizational Psychology at Azusa Pacific University, and she completed doctoral studies in higher education at Claremont Graduate University, where her research focused on diversity and change.

A skilled manager and advocate for her team, Dr. Visser will share insights into managing both one’s own career trajectory and promoting career management practices in those you supervise. Wise career management is a critical skill lacked by many, from college students to professionals. Through planning and harnessing happenstance, Dr. Visser will provide a comprehensive look effective career management processes.

Dr. Brian Cawley, Ph.D. Professor of Business, Calvin College
Topic: Employee Engagement and Retention

Dr. Cawley holds a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Akron and teaches Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Dr. Cawley has served as an internal and external human resource consultant to over 100 organizations in various industries, including financial, healthcare, retail, hospitality, technology, consumer products, transportation, higher education and public safety.

Professor Cawley will disuss his current research into performance feedback. He will talk about the role of feedback and the changing nature of performance management processes in organizations – specifically the trend to ditch performance ratings. Dr. Cawley will also address the recent work in neuroscience which has given us great insight as to why feedback processes can be so difficult to implement.



The cost is $110, $100 for non-profits. MCEEA members receive a 50% discount (contact laurie@calvin.edu for the code).
