What is a free walking tour?

There are hundreds of free walking tours all over the world. It's a fun, inexpensive and popular way to see and learn about a city. They all work on the principle of guests making a voluntary contribution or paying what they feel the tour is worth.

How come it's free? What's the catch?

The ONLY funding we get is from guest contributions. Our guides aren't paid and they work hard to make your experience with us enjoyable, so if you do enjoy the tour PLEASE be generous. But if you're not having fun you're more than welcome to drop out (after letting the guide know of course :-) - or even leave at the end without making ANY contribution. If you can find a better deal than that let us know. Because we haven't!

Do I have to register here? Can't I just show up for the tour?

You MUST register here to come on this tour. We don't accept walk-ups.

Is there a tour minimum? If I'm the only person who shows up, is the tour cancelled?

We have a 4 person tour minimum. If fewer than 4 people sign up we'll email you to tell you that it's cancelled. If only 1-3 people show up for the tour though we'll still run a tour especially for you! However in this case we ask that guests make a $20 per person contribution before the tour starts. But don't worry - if you end up hating the tour we'll give you a FULL refund at the end. If you don't want to contribute in advance we can definitely recommend things to do in the area.

What if it's raining?

We always show up for our tours! No matter what the weather looks like the guide will be there and a decision will be made at the start time if it's possible to go ahead with the tour or not.

What are my transport/parking options to get to the tour?

Union Station is on the Metro Red, Purple and Gold Lines. It's also a key hub on the Southern California Metrolink train network and for Amtrak.

There is parking at Union Station, entered from Vignes Street. At the time of writing (2015) it is $6 per car all day. There are also several surface parking lots in the area.

Free LA Tour

The free tour movement started in Europe in 2004 & has spread to over 200 cities around the globe. Why? Because a walking tour is the best way to see, learn & experience a city.

We started Free LA Tour because we love Los Angeles! We want to show you the best our city has to offer, the things that make it unique & special. Join us on one of our tours of downtown L.A. or Hollywood & discover that the city is about more than movie stars, beaches & Beverly Hills. We have beautiful architecture, fascinating history & great public art. The best part is you decide whether or how much to contribute for your tour.

Join us on L.A.’s very own free tour & we promise you'll end up loving L.A. too!
