Event description
Mental Wellness Gathering: Breakdown the impact the pandemic has had on our overall wellbeing.

About this event

The Indigenous Mental Wellness Gathering Series are FREE events for the community; the purpose is to provide the Los Angeles County American Indian/Alaska Native community and allies with knowledge and access to culturally inclusive and responsive mental health services, resources, and information.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, our lives, relations and mental health has been affected in my many ways. Please join Indigenous Circle of Wellness as we explore the impact the pandemic has had on our lives at our next Mental Wellness Gathering, focusing on Emotional Wellbeing and the Brain: The Effects of COVID-19.

Community member Harrelson Notah, MSW, will be presenting on this topic. Harrelson is a Mental Health Promoter with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, where he delivers mental health workshops based on empowerment and a strength-based approach. Harrelson also serves community in his role as an academic counselor with the Educational Opportunity Program at California State University of Long Beach.

We will also be participating in a beading activity led by community member Kimberly Robertson, PhD. Dr. Robertson is currently an associate professor of American Indian Studies at California State University of Long Beach. She is also an artist who uses Native practices to create. Most recently, Dr. Robertson’s art was featured on the cover and inside “Otherwise Worlds,” a Duke University Press publication. Let's all Support. Connect. Heal.

This will a virtual gathering, that will be held on Zoom for Los Angeles County residents.

The Mental Wellness Gatherings are open to all Los Angeles County Residents. Each person who would like to participate is required to register in advance. This will ensure all supplies and materials are delivered the week of the event. In order to receive beading supplies via shipping, you must register 1 week in advanced.
