Event description

Description

In partnership with the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and our local hosts, VOCAL invites you to join us!

A 2-day Emotional CPR Training will be offered on January 28-29, 9am-5pm, in the Chesapeake area! Emotional CPR (eCPR) is an educational program designed to teach people to assist others through an emotional crisis by three simple steps:

C = Connecting
P = emPowering
R = Revitalizing

The Connecting process of eCPR involves deepening listening skills, practicing presence, and creating a sense of safety for the person experiencing a crisis. The emPowering process helps people better understand how to feel empowered themselves, as well, as to assist others to feel more hopeful and engaged in life. In the Revitalizating process, people re-engage in relationships with their loved ones or their support system, and they resume or begin routines that support health and wellness, which reinforces the person’s sense of mastery and accomplishment, further energizing the healing process.

Participants will learn to:

  • Use curious enquiry and feel the presence of the other person
  • Express emotions in a manner that enhances connection
  • Assist another in discovering their own strength through the process of heart connection
  • Empower others to navigate life challenges and experience new life

Who should attend:

  • Peer Recovery Specialists
  • Lived Experience Practitioners
  • Consumer Companions
  • Support Workers
  • Rehabilitation Workers
  • Social Workers

eCPR was developed with input from a diverse cadre of recognized leaders from across the U.S., who themselves have learned how to recover and grow from emotional crises. They have wisdom by the grace of first-hand experience. Access the program's website here for additional information.

Continuing Education Units will be available.

There will be a 1 hour break for lunch each day. Boxed lunches will be available for $10/day and will be delivered to the training site. If you are interested in ordering your meals in this way, please select your preferred meal on the following registration form and bring your payment to the training. Orders will be placed on day in advance: please be sure to alert us promptly if you cannot attend. VOCAL will need to invoice those who do not call or attend for the cost of their lunches. Participants are also encouraged to pack their own lunch. Assorted drinks will be available throughout the day.

Please be advised that this curriculum utilizes participation in role plays throughout training.
