Dr. Tadarrayl Starke serves as the Director of the Center for Academic Retention & Enhancement (CARE) at Florida State University. In his role as Director and Chair of the Department, he leads a team of more than 300 staff members to coordinate efforts to facilitate student success and development initiatives for over 1,700 students traditionally underrepresented in higher education, with a particular focus on low-income and first-generation students. Starke is also responsible for a portfolio of access and postsecondary success programs and services. These include federal TRIO programs, the Unconquered Scholars Program, the Summer Bridge Program, college academic advising and life coaching, financial literacy, graduate school preparation and a tutoring and computer lab.

Starke earned his Doctorate of Education in Higher Education, Masters of Science degree in Higher Education and Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology all from Florida State University. Starke has worked over 20 years in programming for underserved students to increase access and success in higher education. As a first-generation college student, Starke sees the work to support traditionally underrepresented students as his purpose, and works to help develop and support initiatives and structures related to access, persistence, and graduation of those underserved in higher education.

Susan Contente is the Director of Development for the Division of Undergraduate Studies. She has been with Florida State for over seven years and has more than 20 years of fundraising experience. She began her fundraising career working for an international conservation organization, and before joining the FSU Foundation she has raised funds for small non-profits serving the homeless and mentally ill. While not an FSU graduate, Susan is now a loyal Nole. She is also the proud mother of 14 year-old twins.

Please consider donating nonperishable food items to the CARE program. Donations will be taken at the registration desk.
