Event description

Description

One of the most important problems in transplantation today is controlling allo-immune responses to transplanted organs that result in antibody mediated rejection with subsequent graft loss. In the United States, approximately 5,000 grafts fail each year with the majority due to chronic antibody rejection. Patients returning to the transplant list after allograft failure now comprise the fourth largest category of patients listed and create difficulties for organ allocation as most are highly sensitized. In this symposium we will address the current state of therapy for antibody mediated injury to allografts as well as newer protocols utilizing novel immune-modulatory drugs (imlifidase, Anti-IL-6, and complement inhibitors) as promising agents for prevention and treatment of antibody rejection. This is critical given the growing interest in development of novel immune-modulatory drugs and therapeutic approaches that are more specific with less side effects and expense. This one day educational symposium is designed to help attendees understand the current and future directions of immune-modulatory therapy for treatment of antibody mediated rejection. Discussions will focus on in depth analysis of efficacy and side effect profiles that will improve care.
