Description

Come join thought leaders from fusion energy and finance for a breakfast discussion about the current climate for fusion development.

In the last few years, rapid technological advances have combined with an unprecedented allocation of private investment into companies trying to commercialize fusion power. You may have heard their pitches: the member companies of the FIA have sought funding from leading investors around the world. Put together, they have successfully drawn over $1 Billion in financing, including high profile stakes from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Mithril Capital, Vulcan Capital, and Venrock.

What’s Changed?

You may understand that fusion energy could revolutionize the world’s energy supplies and you may have heard how new materials, cutting-edge computer modeling, and advanced manufacturing will drive breakthroughs in fusion. However, what’s new is that the U.S. Federal Government is taking concrete steps to substantially accelerate its investment and promotion of fusion. With bipartisan leadership from the highest levels of the Department of Energy and Congress, the U.S. government is preparing to take a stake in promoting private fusion.

At this breakfast, you will hear from Andrew Holland, the Director of the newly-formed Fusion Industry Association about the new industry. Dr Scott Hsu, the Program Director for fusion programs at the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the U.S. Department of Energy (ARPA-E), will give a fusion technology overview. The session will conclude with a panel of experts who will explore the current climate for fusion development:

"Why Now? Fusion Finance Risks & Opportunities"

Panelists: Michael Delage (Chief Technology Officer, General Fusion), Kurt Edsinger (Director, Materials & Advanced Nuclear, EPRI), Scott Hsu (Program Director, ARPA-E), Ray Rothrock (Partner Emeritus, Venrock)

Moderator: Melanie Windridge (Communications, Tokamak Energy)

This breakfast will be an informal gathering to discuss recent events and potential partnerships in fusion development. FIA members will be available afterward for any desired extended discussions. We hope you can attend!
