Emerge is an art, science and technology festival devoted to the creative imagination of the future. The 2017 theme of Frankenstein focuses on the risks and responsibilities of innovation in the 21st Century.

EMERGE is an art, science and technology festival devoted to the creative exploration of our possible futures. The 2017 theme of Frankenstein focuses on the risks and responsibilities of innovation. Through multimedia artworks, scientific demonstrations and performances, EMERGE asks: Can we know what the future holds? Can we create the futures we want?

Emerge 2017 offers the Valley an imaginative window into the future by inviting visitors to explore a house of wonder filled with speculative technologies, fortune tellers, music and film, and performative experiments that cross boundaries between art and science. Two centuries ago such a house inspired the young Mary Shelley to begin the iconic tale of Frankenstein—what futures do today’s science and technology prompt us to imagine?

Emerge will feature provocative performances and interactive exhibitions that draw you into conversation about the desirability and consequences of scientific and technological innovations. For a full list of exhibits and activities, go to emerge.asu.edu.

The event runs from 3pm - 9pm. Special showings include:

Radio Healer performs from 7pm - 8pm

The film Electric Breath will be shown in front of the University Club starting at dark until 9:00pm.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

No. This year, Emerge coincides with ASU's Night of the Open Door (NOD). NOD is an 'open house' to ASU so if you're brining children, please know there are a lot of options around the campus between 3pm - 6pm. For more information on NOD, go to https://opendoor.asu.edu.

What are my parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking in most lots on campus is free during the event time. The closest parking to the University Club is the Fulton Parking structure on College and University Drive (north of University and on the east side of College). https://opendoor.asu.edu/tempe/map-parking (see the "P" to the left of the Owl logo where it says "Zone 2").

What can I bring into the event?

We ask that no food or drink be brought into the University Club, with the exception of water. Cameras and photography are permitted. ASU is a non-smoking campus. Please be courteous and refrain from smoking while on campus grounds.

About the organizer

Organized by
ASU School for The Future of Innovation in Society

The School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS) is a transdisciplinary unit at the vanguard of ASU’s commitment to linking innovation to public value. We are pursuing a vision of responsible innovation that anticipates challenges and opportunities, integrates diverse knowledge and perspectives, and engages broad audiences. By examining the ways we translate imagination into innovation — and how we blend technical and social concerns along the way — we learn to build a future for everyone.
