Your client is rocking a natural labor, but the birth is hijacked by medical systems, routines, and policies. She loses her voice and her trust in her body. And you struggle with the futility of setting client expectations and fighting the system -- again!!!!!
Have you turned around to find your client suddenly on her back and in stirrups, despite her not wanting this?
Are your clients' babies' cords cut before you can blink--even when your clients have carefully made birth plans that include delayed cord clamping and discussed this ahead of time with their care providers?
Do you try to encourage Dads/birth partners to advocate, only to find that they don't have the ability to do so on the actual day?
Are you feeling burned out because your clients do not end up getting the births they want and work for?
Are the fathers or other birth partners you work with afraid to look or be involved "down there?"
Do you go home and cry after births?
Are you struggling to even continue to be a doula because you cannot bear to continue to witness birth violence?
The Ellis Prayer Method is a birthing method developed by Alabama doula, Hannah Ellis, HCHD to help facilitate family centered, mindfully spiritual birth. The method is designed to return authority and focus to the birthing family, while honoring every person in the room and valuing medical staff. The results are fewer episiotomies, fewer back births, more delayed cord clamping, and more involved fathers and birth partners who advocate and go ahead and get down there! So how does it all happen? It involves a birth rehearsal, a different way for a doula to think, a washcloth, a sex toy, and prayer! The Ellis Prayer Method is a beautiful way to help welcome babies into our world, celebrate a families' spiritual beliefs, and honor the birthing family's bond. Although rooted in the power of the name of Jesus, it can also be modified for use with non religious families or families of different faiths.
The Ellis Prayer Method was highlighted by Rebecca Dekker of Evidence Based Birth® in 2015 and is currently guest-taught by Hannah Ellis in the Evidence Based Birth® Instructor program. Come find out how to use the Ellis Prayer Method to lift out of widespread doula "give-up funk" and put love and joy and pep back into your work. It's a New Year and it's time for doulas to sparkle again!
