Event Details

This Seminar will be held at the Crossroads Presbyterian Church:
2310 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, PA 15146

Presented by: Sean T. Burns M.Div., LCSW

Monday Evenings from 6:30PM - 8:30PM from March 3rd - April 1st
(3/4, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25, and 4/1)

Chemical abuse and dependence is increasingly in the news with the opioid crisis and the legalization of medical marijuana.  Studies show that behavioral health issues are commonly co-occurring with chemical dependence.  This course is designed to provide behavioral health providers techniques to use and topics to discuss with their clients who either have co-occurring disorders or are influenced by someone who is.  This course will also provide you with material to use to engage your consumers in spiritually informed treatment that will help speak to the whole person.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Determine how they can apply spiritually integrated treatment to their own practice.
  • Recognize addiction and its impact on their client to improve their overall treatment.
  • List the 7 topics that can be addressed in treatment with their client where addiction is indicated.
  • Use interventions for each of the 7 topics.
  • Identify the challenges that a clinician will face when dealing with addiction.
  • Identify when the clinician needs to reach out for help from other people or providers.
  • Discuss the available referral options with their clients and the pros/cons of each.

SPEAKER:

Sean T. Burns M.Div., LCSW
Clinical Director of the Pittsburgh Pastoral Institute

In 1995, Sean received a Masters in Divinity from Columbia International University and in 2007 a Masters of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.  His previous work experience includes eight years in the business world and four years of drug and alcohol treatment at Gateway Rehab.  He joined the PPI team in 2009 and became Clinical Director in 2016.  Sean seeks to help families who are affected by addiction by encouraging them to integrate their faith into their growth.  Upon client request, he enjoys including a Biblical perspective.  Using his broad range of experience, Sean’s goal is to see clients take one practical step at a time in the direction they want to go.
