About this event
Bringing together psychological and theological insights, Phillip Bass, MDiv, ThM, MA, LCMHC, NCC (Trinitas Services) and The Rev. Dr. Helen Svoboda-Barber (Cardboard Dog Coaching) will introduce practices of radical acceptance. Participants will learn how to become more authentic and less performative in all areas of life. The retreat includes education, prayer, discussion, and reflection.
Using Jesus as a model of radical acceptance, participants will -
- Explore how our learned performative behavior has limited our ability to love God, love our neighbors, and love ourselves.
- Explore new ways of communicating with radical acceptance.
- Explore how colonization and capitalism have shaped us to prioritize production, and how this has deformed our authenticity in relationships.
- Explore how an assumed fear of punishment drives our behavior, and how radical acceptance can free us from this fear.
- Explore how radical acceptance can liberate us from systems of oppression that limit our personal relationships.
- Explore how practicing radical acceptance challenges traditional ideas of judgement, inviting us to a new understanding of ourselves and of the world.
- Explore how radically accepting ourselves and others can free us to deepen our lives of faith.
You are invited to join us for a 3-day, 2-night retreat. There will be time for discussion, prayer, and time to explore the grounds of Cedar Cross Retreat Center for quiet reflection. Over the course of the weekend we will also have the opportunity to practice telling our authentic stories over share meals (provided). All participants must have completed their COVID vaccinations.
For questions, contact Phillip Bass at Trinitas Services. You can also read more about the retreat in Rev. Dr. Helen Svoboda-Barber's blog post here.
