Event description

Description

Recent conversations at the university level and nationwide have prompted discussions about the importance of diversity within institutions of higher learning. Colleges and universities are home to students from a number of different racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. In order to meet the needs of all students, academic institutions have a responsibility to provide educational experiences that are both safe and inclusive. This session will focus on developing a deeper understanding of diversity and how it can be applied at the classroom level through developing cultural competency. This session will challenge workshop participants to create a classroom culture that is inclusive and respectful to all students. Participants will be encouraged to share

their own thoughts and ideas as well as consider how they might step outside of their comfort zones in order to initiate conversations about difference within their classrooms. This workshop will be led by Justina Jackson.
