Embrace the Earth - Change the World presented by Dave & Amy Freeman
Sat, April 22, 2017, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM CDT
Guest speakers will be David and Amy Freeman, National Geographic Society’s Adventurers of the year for 2014. Dave and Amy are wilderness guides from Grand Marais, MN. They kayaked from Seattle, WA up through Canada’s Northwest territories, down into the Great Lakes, out to the Atlantic ocean and down the east coast to Key West Florida. What is more important was that 84,000 school children followed their adventures by computer, making suggestions about routing, and learning wilderness skills in the process. Dave and Amy also canoed, cycled and hiked across South America, and in 2014 they canoed from Ely, MN to Washington, DC in support of the Clean Waters Act. Throughout the years they have participated in international, scientific water quality studies and are concerned about maintaining the integrity of our natural resources. From September 2015-September 2016 they lived in a tent in the Boundary Waters canoe area for 367 consecutive days.
Movies have been made about their adventures. They will make two presentations in Lincoln. The first, entitled “Embrace the Earth”, is a fund raiser for Kamp Kaleo and it will take place on Friday evening April 21.
The second presentation, entitled “ Embrace the Earth-Change the World “ will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday April 22, also at Northeast UCC. This is a FREE event open to High school and college age students; all they have to do is show their school ID at the door.
