Event description

Description

If your body had a voice, what would it say when it witnessed an act of racism?

When it perpetuated oppression? Where would it speak from?

How does your body speak when it realizes that you have used your power...

and someone else has lost theirs?

The “Embodied Racial Justice: Mobilizing White Anti-Racist Activism Through Movement Metaphor” workshop series creates a context for white-identified people to develop racial literacy through exploring how the body tracks racism and oppression as a somatic sensory experience. By attuning attention to the body’s wisdom for intuitive fairness and justice, one can increase one’s personal embodied resolve to intervene in racism as well as harvest strategic practices of anti-racist activism through physical motion to join a larger movement of resistance and repair. The workshop’s container of movement and metaphor will offer an opportunity to create choreographies of courage as we bridge our individual body’s potential for change to the body politic’s energy for liberation.

All identities and racial affiliations are welcome, however, the workshop is designed to deepen white-identified people’s racial literacy, accounting of privilege, and strategies for anti-racist interventions.
