Event description
Be still and know: your hips are Holy.

About this Event

Our hips and pelvis can act as an emotional "junk drawer" where we hold trauma, shame, rage, guilt, and sadness. Yet our hips hold hallowed history, and revelatory tales of resilience. For this reason, when we lovingly ease the hips open, the release can be profound, and even sacred. Whether it is due to hours spent sitting at a desk, or to hip-“tightening” muscular habits created though years of vigorous exercise, it is common for yoga students to feel as if their hips are encased in cement. Even when completely spacious through the hips in some postures, students may be perplexed by the strain felt in others. Join Crystal McCreary and Lauren Solomon for this workshop where you will gently unwind tension in the hips and spine, with the intent to find comfort through the body and prepare for seated loving kindness meditation. With a strong focus on breath and the use of props, you will learn how to create a balance of opening and strength through these emotionally charged regions. Over time, more suppleness in the hips can ease back pain, support a more agile gait, add greater depth and fluidity in many yoga postures, and increase your capacity for self-love and compassion.
