The Importance of the Cultural Lens: Embedding First Nations Perspectives into the Classroom

Come join us at the Mount Gravatt Bowls Club for an enlightening event focusing on incorporating First Nations perspectives into primary and secondary education. This event will shed light on the significance of the culturally responsive eduator, exploring how to effectively integrate Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum, through pedagogical approaches such as 8 Ways of Learning and an Interconnectedness Framework. Presented by Torres Strait Islander and experienced educator, Deb Belyea from Zeyawgub Consultancy, this workshop allows you to explore the world through a First Nations lens. Each participant is gifted with a workshop booklet, A1 map of Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait) and a range of curriculum resources with First Nations perspectives designed by Zeyawgub Consultancy, the Zeyawgub Resource padlet with all resources aligned to the Australian Curriculum V9.0.

Workshop is delivered in 3 sessions:

Session 1: Cultural Responsiveness in Education. Unpack Cultural Biases, learn about Indigenous Knowledge Systems and the Importance of First Nations Perspectives in the Curriculum.

Session 2: Explore Culturally Responsive Pedagogical Approaches: 8 Ways of First Nations Learning and Deb's Interconnectedness: Torres Strait Islander Cultural Identity within a Holistic Framework.

Session 3: Put theory to work with planning.

Don't miss this opportunity to enhance your teaching practices and create a more inclusive learning environment for all students.
