Event description

Description

The harsh reality to war, is death. During the Civil War, thousands of soldiers lost their lives on the battlefield. At the time, the practice of embalming the dead was becoming more popular, and was used on the battlefields. This program goes over embalming during the Civil War, and discusses the practices at Gettysburg following the battle. Mourning rituals were much different than today, and could be very extensive. This program will take a look at the common rituals of the Civil War era.

Presented by Don & Ruthann Williams.
