Event description

Description

Gallery Luperca presents an Artist Talk with NYC based multi-disciplinary artist Elise Drake at the closing reception of Guilty Pleasures, Friday, September 29 at 7pm. N&XT Nashville director Lindsay Goranson will moderate the talk.

Drake is a sculptor, performer, and installation artist based in NYC. She repurposes found and sourced materials to create soft fiber works that explore identity, self-love, and our curated selves.

Guilty Pleasures speaks to the things we choose to obscure as we cultivate our public personas. The exhibition asks questions about the lies we tell ourselves, both knowingly and subconsciously, and the truths behind our chosen facades.

“The stages of individualism upon which we broadcast our self-proclaimed personal truths are platforms nearing their expirations. We not only crave play and pretend beyond these constructed presentations, but we require it. In these moments in which we step off stage into the unmentioned, performing through disappearance, are our true selves disguised or are they revealed?”

Lindsay Goranson is an actor, artist, collaborator, and consultant based in Nashville, Tennessee. Her experience ranges from stage to film to art direction. She is a prolific maker and founder of N&XT, a community of artists focused on developing new and experimental work for stage and screen.

Guilty Pleasures is on view at ESPS in The Packing Plant through September 29. Gallery hours are 2-8pm Wednesday-Thursday and 11-3pm Saturday. Please contact sara@galleryluperca.com or 615-669-1384 for more information or to make an appointment.
