ELEVATOR EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT - OPERATIONAL LEVEL - JUNE 26-27, 2019

TWO DAY COURSE

LEAD INSTRUCTOR: MIKE DRAGONETTI

CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS AND A PREREQUISITE FOR THE ELEVATOR RESCUE TECHNICIAN COURSE

This two-day course will cover the following:

  • Elevator types and construction

  • Step-by-step Rescue procedures

  • Elevator safety features

  • Hydraulic elevator rescue

  • Elevator keys, picks and poling

  • Traction elevator rescue

General Information: This course is designed for the trained professionals that respond to emergencies involving stalled elevators. Emergency personnel with inadequate training in handling elevator emergencies are exposed to an increased risk of injury of death to both the victim and themselves. This comprehensive course will provide emergency responders with intensive classroom and hands-on traning to safely and effective remove passengers from stalled elevators.

Topics include: Nonmenclature, safety, basic elevator functions, construction, outside hoists, elevator safety devices, equipment needed, initial response steps, starting a stalled elevator, lock-out/tag-out procedures, elevator doors, use of hoistway door keys/pick tools, poling, removal of passengers from stalled elevators, and fireman service (Phase 1/Phase 2).

This course also features a dynamic PowerPoint classroom presentation accompanied by realistic hands-on skill stations. The course will also feature the state-of-the-art props, built from actual elevator and escalator parts. Day involves classroom lecture and PowerPoint. Day 2 includes a tour of facilites with hydraulc and traction elevators, use of door keys/pick tools, lowering a hydraulic elevator, and top hatch removal procedures.

Hotel Information:

The Stamford Fire Department has secured a special room rate of $127.00 per night at the Sheraton Stamford for firefighters traveling to Stamford for any training event at our facilities. The Sheraton Stamford is located at 700 East Main Street in Stamford and across the street from Central Fire Headquarters. Visiting firefighters may park at Fire Headquarters for free during their stay.

About the Instructor:

Michael A. Dragonetti is 24 year member of the Stamford (CT) Fire Department. He was assigned to to Rescue Company 1 for 17 years and is presently assigned as a Deputy Chief's Aide in Group 2. Mike is a New York and Connecticut State certified fire service instructor. He has taught elevator rescue at the FDNY Technical Rescue School, FDIC, and to Fire Departments across the United States. In addition, Mike has been a presenter at the Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC) since 2003 and a contributing author for Fire Engineering magazine. Prior to joining the fire service, Mike worked for one of the largest elevator companies in the world and gained extensive experience in the New York City Metropolitan area constructing, modernizing, maintaining, and repairing elevators and escalators.
