Eight ELEVATE Emerging Outdoor Artist Placement Opportunities, 2017 (paid & unpaid)
Call for applications
Placement Period: Up to 10 days (or half day equivalent) between 15th May – 18th June 2017
Location: WOW Workshop, Campfield Market Hall, Manchester
Post: 4 paid and 4 unpaid emerging outdoor artist placements to make artwork alongside Manchester Day outdoor artists for Manchester Day 2017.
Manchester Day is an annual outdoor arts event now in its 8th year centres around a large scale parade and city square artistic programme. Over 2,500 performers and artists from local communities bring Manchester city centre to life in a fantastic display of colour, sound and movement to an audience of 70,000. This year’s Manchester Day theme is Abracadabra.
What is ELEVATE?
ELEVATE is a North West outdoor artist mentoring and training programme. Creative practitioners are mentored and trained by experts to work on Manchester Day, Manchester's largest scale outdoor arts event.
Want to be part of making creative content for a major outdoor event?
Manchester Day brings together outdoor artists from across the region to work from one location (the WOW workshop) between May and June each year.
Placements will work alongside these artists, gaining knowledge of outdoor arts and new practical making skills in a fast paced mass-scale production line. Building networks and portfolio for your future.
Have you got what we are looking for?
Interest in outdoor arts
Creative skillset in ‘making’
Friendly, with great communication skills
Punctual and reliable
Emerging artists should be under-graduate or recent graduates of arts, creative industries or design subjects . We will also accept applications from emerging artists who have not taken the university route, but can demonstrate commitment and talent.
Applicants should live or study in or around the North West of England, and be available to work between May and June 2017.
Paid placements will be awarded to emerging artists who can already demnstrate a commitment to outdoor arts. Unpaid placements will be awarded to those new to the area, but keen to learn more.
Places are limited so final selection will be based on who will benefit most and what they bring.

Fees and Expenses
Paid placement fee £504 inc VAT, for ten days (calculated at £7.20 minimum wage) plus expenses.
All unpaid placements will have expenses paid.
