Join Boston Young Healthcare Professionals (BYHP) for our 2017 symposium! Given the importance of the election, and its potential impact on healthcare, BYHP has gathered leaders from across healthcare to drive discussions about the impact that government and policy has on healthcare. By the end of this symposium, the audience should leave with a wide range of perspectives across parties on how government and politics impact healthcare on the state and national level, and leave with a toolbox on how to work with your local government to lobby for issues that matter to you.
Some of the speakers you will hear from include:
Lora Pellegrini, President & CEO at Massachusetts Association of Health Plans
Lynn Nicholas, President & CEO at Massachusetts Hospital Association
Michael Doonan, Associate Professor at The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, Executive Director of Massachusetts Health Policy Forum, and Director of the Council for Health Care Economics and Policy
Don Michaels, SVP at Hayes Management Consulting
John Henry Silva, Principal, Tufts Health Ventures, Tufts Health Plan
Nick Dougherty, Director at PULSE@MassChallenge
Rob Schultz, Founder and CEO of Tunza
Brian Rosman, Policy & Government Relations Director, Health Care For All
Krina Patel, Senior Associate of Government Affairs, athenahealth
Tanya Zucconi, VP of Professional Services at SRG Technology
In addition to a "Lobbying 101 workshop" we will have the following discussions during the symposium:
(1) Payment Reform Panel
The purpose of the Payment Reform Panel is to discuss how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has influenced payment reform in health care to date, both in MA and nationally. We will discuss the role of government in payment reform, how much regulation is ideal, and ways that the next president has the potential to shape this area of health policy.
(2) Mergers & Acquisitions Panel - Consolidation in Healthcare and the Impact on The Patient
The topic of consolidation has dominated the healthcare news in recent years. The focus on increasing efficiency and building scalable, integrated systems has driven the rate of mergers and acquisitions to an all time high. With strategies designed for improving bargaining power, efficiencies, and decreasing cost, the patient is often lost in the conversation. This panel discussion will look at the consolidation trend in healthcare and how it impacts the patient experience.
To end the symposium, we will have a networking session. We will be serving food and drink during the symposium! For more information regarding the symposium and the list of confirmed speakers, click here.
