Eastside Leaf Meeting (formerly ELUG)

We will be hosting our first CMP Approved Webinar this month. Join us for a short presenation from Salmon-Safe and then a webinar from the Best of Greenbuild Series.

Approved for 1.5 hours of LEED Specific (BD+C, ND) GBCI hours as well as 1.5 AIA/CES LU/HSW/SD hours:
LEED 259: Best of Greenbuild: Multi-Variate Study of Stormwater BMPs

Stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) are systems that capture stormwater runoff near the point of generation, slow runoff rates, increase infiltration, and remove pollutants. Completed in March 2011, the BNIM Team’s research of BMP performance examines rain gardens, infiltration basins, and stormwater treatment trains in the Midwest.  Research conclusions include the analysis of BMP performance, the evaluation of vegetation and soil composition, and recommended design modifications to improve treatment, infiltration, and storage.

Salmon-Safe
More than a decade after first certifying farms in Oregon's Willamette Valley, SalmonSafe has become one of the nation's leading regional eco labels with more than 60,000 acres of farm and urban lands certified in Oregon, Washington, California, and British Columbia. Founded by Pacific Rivers Council, Salmon-Safe is now an independent
501(c)3 nonprofit based in Portland Oregon. Our mission is to transform land management practices so Pacific salmon can thrive in West Coast watersheds. Salmon-Safe works across the West Coast through our Partner Network.

Ellen Southard has been the Salmon Safe Puget Sound Outreach Manager since 2009.  In her 23 years of experience in the construction industry she has been involved with many community-based initiatives that support low impact development, eco-tourism,farmland preservation, historic resources and cultural corridor formation. She is particularly interested in developing a better understanding of habitat function in the built environment and linking that work to human ecology.  Working in support of dual certification with Built Green she recently helped develop the 5-Star Checklist. An active member of the USGBC, Built Green of King and Snohomish Counties, Ellen recently served as
a “Next Fifty” Sustainability Ambassador amongst a group of community leaders who planned the Next
Fifty celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Seattle’s 1962 World’s Fair
