Event description
Experience the beauty of Elbel Park Golf Course. This magnificent property, consisting of 320 acres, is the city’s largest.

About this Event

At Elbel Park you’ll find wetlands, forest, shallow lakes and an abundance of wildlife including deer, reptiles and amphibians, Sandhill cranes, Pileated woodpeckers and other species of birds and mammals. The park also contains other attractions like rolling hills, majestic trees and former kettle lakes. The glacial footprint is evident even today.

Join us for a series of free Sunday afternoon hikes along the lake and into the woods. Since the public generally doesn’t hike in this park and golf course, there are no established trails leading to the uplands we will explore. Because of this, the footing is tricky; we’ll periodically travel along a steep hillside while stepping over various obstacles (i.e. branches, logs and large rocks). Because of the footing, this hike will be challenging for small children and those with limited mobility.

The maximum attendance is 30 people per hike, with a minimum attendance of 10. In the case of heavy rain, strong winds or thunderstorms, the hike will be canceled. On the day of the hike, sturdy shoes or hiking boots – along with insect repellent – are recommended. Tickets to the event are required!
