About this Event

Nino de los Reyes, dancer

Nino de los Reyes is a world-renowned flamenco dancer who has performed with international pop and jazz superstars including Paul Simon and Chick Corea. His dancing has been called “spectacularly explosive and subtle at the same time” (Aire Flamenco). He draws influences from modern dance and tap, but his art always has flamenco and duende at its core.

De los Reyes is featured on Paul Simon’s latest album, Stranger to Stranger. He performed with Simon in the Madrid Barclays Center to an audience of 20,000. The living legend of jazz, Chick Corea, invited de los Reyes to perform with him in his 75th birthday celebration at the Blue Note in New York and later in Madison Square Garden. His blazingly fast footwork and dynamic clapping feature on Corea’s latest album, Antidote, and “give the album its authentic Spanish touch” (Financial Times). De los Reyes toured with Corea’s The Spanish Heart Band in the summer of 2019, performing in some of the most important festivals in Europe including the Montreux Jazz Festival, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and Love Supreme.

De los Reyes is a flamenco prodigy who continues the dynasty of his parents, Ramón de los Reyes and Clara Ramona. At the age of nine he toured the world in the show, Campanas Flamencas, directed by Paco Sánchez, founder of the legendary Cumbre Flamenca. In this show he danced in many prestigious venues worldwide, including London’s Sadler’s Wells and the Sydney Opera House, and he was soon performing with the great flamenco companies of Eduardo Serrano “El Güito”, Carmen Cortés, and Javier Barón.

Recently he was invited to participate in a memorial tribute to Paco de Lucía, Beyond the Memory, sharing the stage with the members of de Lucía’s band. He has also appeared in Spanish television’s Flamencos en El Berlín, collaborating with the biggest superstars in flamenco dance: Antonio Canales, Juan Manuel Fernández Montoya “Farruquito”, Antonio Fernández Montoya “Farru”, José Maya, Paloma Fantova, and Belen López.

An esteemed and award-winning choreographer, de los Reyes has created three original shows: Origen, Inside, and his most recent creation, Tierra, directed by David Picazo. Origen won multiple awards in the Madrid Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Competition, including First Prize for Solo Choreography, Best Emerging Flamenco Artist, and Best Original Music (composed by Paco Cruz).
