GERLING-MUT DUO PLAY ROMANTIC PIECES FROM THE 1880s BY FRANCK AND SARASATE AS WELL AS THE 1980s BY PIAZZOLLA

Join us for an evening house concert featuring three major romantic works for violin and piano from the eighties (1880s and 1980s). Let the Gerling-Muţ Duo transport you back through the musical richness of the Gilded Age as well as the Nuevo Tango movement.

Our concerts take place in the intimate setting of a house concert where the musicians discuss each work and interact with the audience during and after the concert. This is the ideal way to hear great music.

Guests are encouraged to bring wine, a snack or a dessert.

SCHEDULE

Enjoy wine, hors d'oeuvres, and social time from 7:15pm - 8pm. The concert will start prompty at 8 PM. There will be a brief intermission to replenish drinks and snacks.

Ticket sales or suggested donations at the concert go directly to the musicians.

About Gerling-Mut Duo

Gerling-Mut Duo is a classical violin and piano duo. Violinist Ingrid Gerling and pianist Andrea Mut have performed extensively as soloists, recitalists and chamber musicians through the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. Their exquisite and fresh style is the result of their delicate approach to melody and line, and their mutual passion for balance, unforced sounds, style, and precision of technique.

About the Artists

Ingrid Caparelli Gerling, violin


Dr. Ingrid Caparelli Gerling is a violinist native of Porto Alegre, Brazil, has performed extensively as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician throughout the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia.

Dr. Gerling completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at the Moores School of Music in Houston, TX. She studied violin performance with Prof. Frank Huang, concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, and conducting with Franz Anton Krager. Dr. Gerling is the former concertmaster of the Moores School Symphony Orchestra, the Moores School Opera and Ballet Orchestras, as well as the Houston Heights Orchestra. She has been selected as a DaCamera Young Artist for the 2015-2016 season.

Her performances include regular appearances as a violinist for Musiqa, Houston’s premiere new music ensemble, and the Mercury orchestra. She is also a member of the Houston-based Axiom quartet as well as the Gerling-Mut Duo. Dr. Gerling is the Professor of Violin and Orchestra Director at San Jacinto College Central and the University of St. Thomas, and also maintains a very active private violin studio.

Andreea Muţ, piano

Ms. Muţ won over fifteen prizes in national and international competitions: 2nd prize at Pro Piano International Competition Bucharest, Romania (2004), 3rd prize at “Carl Filtsch” International Competition, Sibiu, Romania (2001), and 5th prize at “George Enescu” International Competition, Bucharest (1998), among others. In addition, Ms. Muţ performed in numerous solo and chamber music recitals throughout Romania, France, Colombia, Mexico and the United States.

In 2007 she made her debut at Romanian Athenee in Bucharest, Romania. Between 2012 and 2014, she held the position of Head Repetiteur and Assistant Conductor at Opera in the Heights Houston. Recent engagements include performances with AURA – The Moores School of Music Contemporary Ensemble, and the Texas Two Year College All State Choir (San Antonio, 2015). Andreea is currently studying with Timothy Hester at University of Houston, working towards her doctorate in Collaborative Arts.
