Event description

Description

The Graduate Student Teaching Association presents the 8th Annual Pedagogy Day Conference on Friday, October 27, 2017 at The Graduate Center, CUNY.

Pedagogy day is an annual conference dedicated to providing doctoral students with the knowledge, skills, and resources to teach effectively in undergraduate classrooms.

This year’s conference theme is Cross-Pollinating Teaching & Research.

Our keynote speaker Dr. Cynthia E. Winston-Proctor (from Howard University) will discuss qualitative inquiry and curriculum design in a presentation titled Qualitative Inquiry and Curriculum Design: Approaches to Mastery in the Era of “Big Data”, STEM Education, and the Changing Constellation of Global Problems.

Workshops will include:

  • A Day in the Life of a Reinvigorated Research Methods Course (led by Dr. Gary Lewandowski and Dr. Dave Strohmetz from Monmouth University)

  • Research Reports as Summative Evaluations: Interpretive Self-Reflection in the Service of Pedagogy (led by Dr. Joshua W. Clegg and doctoral student James Christopher Head from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY)

  • Total Participation Techniques (led by graduate student fellows of the Futures Initiative from The Graduate Center, CUNY).

Last but not least, the Teaching Activity Blitz showcases graduate students’ creative activities!

Food and refreshments will be served throughout the day!

This year’s Pedagogy Day is going to be fabulous and we hope to see you there!

Volunteers and interested students are encouraged to join the Pedagogy Day committee and assist with communications/outreach, registration, and set-up of venue on the day of the event!
All the questions, comments, and other forms of communication should be addressed to Pedagogy Day 2017 co-chairs, Teresa Ober and Elizabeth Che, at gsta.cuny@gmail.com
