Event description

Description

This two-day Master Class includes several program elements, including moderated panels, keynote speakers and the construction of an advocacy toolbox. Guest panelist will provide (1) a post-election briefing related to midterm election outcomes and what this means for Congress, and (2) experts from various fields will provide a moderated fireside chat overview of major national policy issues the new Congress will face. Details related to hotel accommodations are included in the FAQs section below.

We encourage participants to bring a laptop and a federal policy idea, issue or recommendation you want to share with members of Congress. Attendees will receive training related to national engagement best practices, tools and resources, typically available to elite powerbrokers. The key program deliverable includes: hands-on assistance with translating ideas and national policy concerns into a legislative toolbox that includes a plan of action, a handbook, legislative language, proposals and one-pager policy brief specific to each attendee's interest. Those attending the Master Class will learn how to access research and resources to support their efforts and other steps they can take to engage congressional champions, enhance their visibility, and get results in Washington, DC. Strategies relevant to emerging demographics, multicultural communities, women and other communities will be covered. A preliminary Advocacy Institute program outline follows:
