Description

Effective Psychotherapy Supervision: What CMT and Relational Psychoanalysis Can Teach Each Other

Instructors: Joan Sarnat, PhD and Jack Bugas, PhD

Learning objectives

1. Conceptualize supervision as a relationship in which emotional experience--in addition to didactic teaching--facilitates supervisee development.

2. Apply the CMT clinical concepts of “unconscious plan” and “unconscious testing” to the supervisory relationship.

3. Discuss the overlap between the supervisory concept of “parallel process” and the clinical concept of “passive-into active.”

4. Describe how safety in the supervisory relationship may help the supervisee to master traumatic feelings evoked in the clinical relationship, and also help the supervisee to become conscious of unconscious clinical and supervisory material.
