Effective Communication with African American Clients
Description
The African American Babies Coalition is a group of African American community leaders committed to supporting the healthy development of babies by translating what we know from early childhood development research and brain science into culturally relevant information that can be used in African American family and community life. We are looking for service providers (case managers, social workers, family specialists, health care providers, early childhood education or childcare providers, etc.) who are working with African American clientele to join us in one or all of our three 2-hour workshops in order to gain knowledge, skills, and practices about how to work with African Americans in a culturally-appropriate manner. Our trainers will explore topics such as trauma, toxic stress, and factors that impact the African American community and health outcomes.
This is the second workshop in the series and will address how to effectively engage with African American clientele as a service provider. We will use a variety of adult learning frameworks to improve relationship-building.
*Limitied scholarships are available to service providers. Please contact Lakresha Williams @ lakresha.williams@wilder.org for more information.
