Description

Parent Education Workshop

Speaker: Brian Blaisch, MD

Target Audience: Parents of All Ages (Providers also welcome)

This workshop will provide a unique perspective from a parent and provider to children with Autism. By effectively collaborating across multiple disciplines, such as school, home, healthcare and agencies, we can better work as a team to support children with Autism. Best practices in multi-disciplinary support systems, with a special focus on collaborating with medical providers, will be discussed. Topics will include reducing conflicts and team contention, reducing stigma, accessing resources effectively and confronting common challenges. Participants will get a chance to discuss triumphs, fears and struggles. While this workshop is targeted at parents of children on the spectrum, providers are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Brian Blaisch is pediatrician with the Autism, Behavior & Child Development Center of the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. His focus is on effectively collaborating to ensure positive outcomes for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. He specializes in medication management and acts as a school liaison for children with ADHD, learning disabilities and autism. He has a 16 year old son with autism.
