We have invited distinguished speakers from many countries, all of whom offer interesting insights into doing good. Aside from talks, we will also engage in informal discussions, in which we hope to spark an active EA community in Czech Republic.
Our confirmed speakers include:
Alix Zwane - an expert on public health and the CEO of Global Innovation Fund, and former executive director of Evidence Action and Senior Program Officer of the global development group at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Alix will talk about effective development aid.
Johannes Treutlein - Research and Growth expert at Sentience Politics, an organization aiming for minimizing present and future suffering of all sentient beings. Johaness will talk about positive and negative possible outcomes of our future and ways we could steer the future's direction with our present-day actions.
David Goldberg - the founder of Founders Forum for Good, the organization behind the Founder's Pledge program, which engourages startup founders to pledge 2% of their future earnings to effective charity. David will discuss career selection - the question of how can one effectively do good via their career.
Lucius Caviola - a psychologist and director of the Foundation for Effective Altruism (Stiftung für Effektiven Altruismus). Lucius will talk about systematic irrationality in human behavior and its implications for decision-making, including in the context of helping others.
Ollie Base - the founder of the EA chapter at University of Warwick and a student of philosophy and psychology. Ollie will give a talk about the aims and actions of the Students for High-Impact Charity organization.
What is effective altruism?
Effective altruism is about making the world as good as possible as efficiently as possible. EA researches and compares different methods of helping people and improving the world, with a strong emphasis on empirical data analysis and scientific thinking, which we use in order to select the most efficient ways of helping.
Tickets cost 400 CZK (~$17) apiece, and students and non-profit workers are eligible to a 62.5% discount, which brings the ticket price to just 150 CZK (~$7).
