Description

EERI Is Marching for Science !

As a part of the broader science and research community, we at EERI are dedicated to evidence-based practice. Our own mission calls for (1) advancing the science and practice of earthquake engineering, (2) improving understanding of the impact of earthquakes on the physical, social, economic, political, and cultural environment, and (3) advocating comprehensive and realistic measures for reducing the harmful effects of earthquakes. We approach these charges in a number of ways, but always show up as advocates for seismic safety and policy that supports resilience research. We rely on scientific facts, and count on the innovation that stems from evidence-based research to support our mission as an organization.

The March for Science is an organized demonstration of “people who value science, science advocates, science educators, scientists, and concerned citizens” happening in Washington DC and in 425 satellite marches around the world on April 22nd, 2017.

We feel that the March for Science is an appropriate place to do our work, and plan to be visible demonstrators at the Bay Area march in San Francisco with the support of the Northern California Chapter and the EERI Public Policy Committee.

Regional, Student, and Membership Support

Our Regional Chapters, Student Chapters, and membership worldwide have EERI’s support should you choose to organize for a satellite march in your own city. Feel free to use this template to organize or find a march near you!

Please keep EERI informed if you choose to march by entering your name on the template, contacting Beki McElvain (bmcelvain@eeri.org), or posting to #EERIforScience on social media.
