Event Details

This dinner's theme is all about fostering productive discussion in your classroom. We'll be discussing those questions that will get your students thinking and delving deeper into a topic which leads to an engaging and exciting discussion for you and your students. We'll be offering dinner and the expertise of local educators on this topic.

(Yes, we know this is *during* April vacation week....for those who are sticking around, join us!)

Here's the rundown of what’s happening at this month’s Educator Exchange, Dinner Edition

  • Introductions around the table: Teacher Collaborative, Experts/Innovators, & Educators

  • Dinner and loosely-facilitated discussion with experts and attendees

  • Wrap up/closing

The Experts/Innovators are:

  • Tamika Fluker is a 4th grade teacher. She teaches students to be respectful, responsible citizens, by using their metacognitive thinking, engaging in inquiry, and using their voices effectively. With this in mind, she promotes and encourages rich discourse (amongst students) through rigorous, relative, connective, content.

More experts/innovators to come

Getting there:

  • Traveling by T: The Blarney Stone is accessible by bus or the closest T stop is the Fields Corner station on the red line.
  • Parking: Street parking is available but limited.

The Educator Exchange: Dinner Edition is a spinoff of the Educator Exchanges: Big Ideas series. The dinner edition offers more intimate conversation focused on a particular topic that has been selected by teachers in which you get a chance to tap into the expertise of two local educators and one another! Each month features a different theme, new resources, and guest experts.

What do we mean by experts/innovators?

  • We define experts/innovators as educators who are trying something new and working to gather resources and content on that specific topic.  Of course, experts are also still learning and improving, too! Oftentimes, teachers do not give themselves enough credit when describing what they're good at and what they have expertise in, so we wanted to encourage teachers to own this.

Who can attend this event?

Events are open to anyone who wants to discuss the given topic more in depth.

  • Educators who are curious about how to utilize talk-moves more effectively and become a facilitator of student discussion
  • Educators who feel confident facilitating classroom discussions, but want to give students more ownership in facilitating their own discussions
  • Educators who are experts at facilitating classroom discussion and support/coach other staff members in their schools.
