Event Details

This month's theme is all about effectively engaging parents and families and creating a partnership for success in their child's education. We'll be offering dinner, (hosted at Meadhall) and the expertise of local educators on this topic. (Yes, we know this is *during* February vacation week....for those who are sticking around, join us!)

Here's the rundown of what’s happening at this month’s Educator Exchange: Dinner Edition

Agenda:

  • Introductions around the table: Teacher Collaborative, Experts, & Educators

  • Dinner and loosely-facilitated discussion with experts and attendees

  • Wrap up/closing

The Experts are:

  • Arlene Sanchez is an EdNavigator where she works with all kinds of families in all kinds of schools, all over the greater Boston area. EdNavigators help with everything from finding a child’s first school to planning for college. While they specialize in supporting families with school-aged children in grades K-12, they can also help adults in their own education goals, like earning a new degree or certificate that will help advance their career. The overall goal of EdNavigators is to make it easy for parents and adult learners to get the advice they need to keep their family on track in school and beyond.
  • Victoria Paulino is also an EdNavigator.  She serves the Greater Boston community to support hard-working families find a path to success in school and beyond. This work is done by providing individualized educational counseling for students in grades K-12, college-age students and adult learners seeking to go back to school.
  • Michelle Dean is an 8th grade Humanities teacher at the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Boston, MA. She is the Humanities Team Leader for grades 8-12. She is a member of the 2018-2019 cohort of The Perrone-Sizer Institute for Creative Leadership. She was a Boston Foundation EDX Fellow, and a Teach Plus Commonwealth Teaching Policy Fellow. Michelle is a member of the Massachusetts Council of Social Studies and has been a presenter at the Northeast Regional Conference for the Social Studies. She is currently developing a pilot Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program for Boston's Chinese parents. She will be sharing more about the ongoing process of her work, how Chinatown community leaders, activists, and parents have provided input, and her unexpected exploration of "cultural anthropology".

Getting there:

  • Traveling by T: Meadhall is accessible by bus or the closest T stop is the Kendall Square/MIT station on the red line.
  • Parking: There is some street parking and some garage parking in Kendall Square; plan some extra time for finding a spot.

The Educator Exchange: Dinner Edition is a spinoff of the Educator Exchanges: Big Ideas series. The dinner edition offers more intimate conversation focused on a particular topic that has been selected by teachers in which you get a chance to tap into the expertise of two local educators and one another! Each month features a different theme, new resources, and guest experts.
