Join us as we examine one of the central pillars of Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision on education and explore what it means to ascend toward the “mountaintop” of opportunity, equity, and collective uplift. Drawing on King’s final sermon at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he spoke of having “been to the mountaintop,” this year’s program reflects on the vantage point of K-12 and higher education—its promise, its shortcomings, and the transformative possibilities it holds for individuals, communities, and democracy.
This event is part of UVA's 2026 Community Martin Luther King Celebration and is co-sponsored by UVA Lifetime Learning in the Office of Engagement.
