ROLL PLAYING - Early Intervention wheeled pediatrics mobility.

Play is often described as the work of children and is one of the primary ways in which children learn. Unfortunately for many children with physical limitations, engaging in activities including play without the support of adaptive equipment is not possible. In addition, the lack of proper positioning and mobility equipment can have a significant impact on a child's respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, muscular skeletal system, and develop skills (e.g. communication, cognition, social, emotional, etc.). During this two-hour seminar, participants will learn about the role seating and mobility plays in a child's development, the complete evaluation process, and complex rehabilitation technology (CRT) available specifically for infants to young children, as well as the clinical application of the equipment discussed.

DON'T BE BASIC - Wheeled mobility for tweens and teens

Throughout the pre-adolescence and adolescence phases of development pediatric clients will likely experience various changes in areas such as physical growth, appearance, cognition, emotional, and psychosocial development. All of these changes can have a significant impact on not only the equipment selected for a pediatric client, but also the level at which the client is directly involved in the entire complex rehabilitation technology provision process. During this two hour educational session participants will learn about considerations to keep in mind when recommending seating and wheeled mobility equipment for this unique population. Topics including the complete evaluation process, potential impacts of human development, and key aspects of equipment will be reviewed.

THINKING INSIDE THE BOX - Modifying standard cushions and backs to best support your clients.

Many times an individual has specific seating needs that require custom modifications of their seating system due to changes in the individual's orthopedic asymmetries or positioning. Customizations can be addressed during the ordering process or in the clinic on standard cushions and backs. This course will discuss modification of standard cushions and backs.

Instructor:

Linda Bollinger joined the Sunrise Medical team in the fall of 2018 as a Clinical Education Manager. She has a BS-MS in physical therapy from Long Island University, Brooklyn. In May 2018, she earned her DPT from Utica College. In addition, she received her ATP certification in 2000.

Prior to joining the Sunrise Medical team, Linda was the Director of Rehabilitation at Long Island Select Healthcare. Her experience at UCP included developing and operating a seating and mobility clinic for individuals with disabilities. Although this clinic primarily served developmentally disabled children and adults, the patients included individuals with acquired disabilities, as well. Prior to joining UCP, Linda had successfully created a pediatric seating clinic at a local school for disabled students. Linda has shared her knowledge and experience running seating clinics at local community events and guest lectures with local PT and OT programs.
