Educating for Racial Equity in Our Schools: A Morningside Center Institute

Event Information

Event description

Come join us for a 3-day workshop.

In this engaging, interactive workshop, we will identify and practice strategies for interrupting racism in our schools and learn equitable practices that can make our classrooms more welcoming and productive for both students and staff.

Using a restorative circles format, we will share our backgrounds and personal experiences. We will engage in a rigorous and unflinching exploration of racism in the United States today, and examine how systemic racism operates in our schools to diminish the opportunities and outcomes for black and brown children. We will give special attention to disproportionality in discipline, which feeds the school to prison pipeline. We will focus on anti-blackness as the fulcrum of various forms of oppression in the U.S., and take a frank look at whiteness, power, and history.

In the process, we will forge powerful bonds with each other, creating a network of support, resources, and a pool of wisdom to draw on long after the workshop ends.

A generous outside grant allows us to substantially reduce the cost of this 3-day workshop from $300 to $100 for these dates.

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Space is limited for this workshop and by registering, you would be taking a important spot in the workshop. As a result, we do not issue refunds on registrations. If you register for our workshop and later are unable to attend, we can offer a credit if you notify us at least 1 week before the workshop. We also allow transfering your registration to another educator with at least 1 week notice.
