If you are a parent or guardian of an upcoming 6th-grader, please join us for a tour of Edna Brewer Middle School. Come and learn about the academic and extracurricular programs that make our school a top choice for Oakland families.
You will visit classrooms and the campus, followed by a Q&A session. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from and ask questions of Brewer administrative staff, parents of current students, and a panel of 6th-8th grade students.
Check-in and tours begin by the school office. Please be sure to RSVP for the total number in your group. We look forward to meeting you!
FAQs (please read before contacting us)
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is parking on the streets surrounding the school, but you should plan on needing 15 minutes to find parking and getting to the entry of the school. You may need to park several blocks away on the streets surrounding the school (e.g., E. 38th St. or Excelsior Ave.).
AC Transit line 18 stops right by the school, on Park Blvd at E. 38th St.
Where do I go on the day of the event?
Please enter the school through the left set of doors as you face the school on 13th Ave. (this is the entry closest to E. 38th St.). Go up the stairs, and the check-in will be directly across from the school office.
Do I need to arrive by 8:45?
We will be sending groups to tour the school as attendees arrive, and groups will be returning from their tours around 9:30 a.m. for the Q&A session. We recommend arriving for check-in by 8:30 if possible -- arriving after 8:45 will reduce the amount of time that you have to see the school.
Can I bring my child?
Parents are welcome to bring their child, but we do have other events that could allow your child to see Brewer without requiring you to have him/her miss school: there will be an evening information event in Dec.; also, the four closest elementary schools will have a field trip to Brewer for their entire 5th-grade class (check with your child's teacher to see if this is something that his/her school has done previously).
How many people can I bring?
We ask participants to keep their group to a maximum of 3 people. There is limited space, both in terms of our ability to lead groups for the tours and in the library for the Q&A session. If you have a larger group, we ask you to bring them to the evening information event in December, as we will be able to accomodate more people.
Are these events appropriate for families looking to transfer from another middle school?
For families interested in a transfer opportunity for their 7th or 8th-grader, you are welcome to contact the Brewer office directly to arrange a grade-specific tour.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No -- we will have a check-in list when you arrive.
