EDM Trends & Effects with a Quick Guide to Coordinating No Refusal Events
Fri, June 16, 2017, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM PDT
Professionals from Grant County and surrounding areas are invited to attend this FREE workshop!
From 9am-12pm, participants will hear about Electronic Dance Music and Trends. All over the world, the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) has become an increasingly popular genre of popular music. This session will help you understand the EDM culture and how it differs from other drug- and alcohol-related trends. You’ll find out about:
*Types of EDM events (and locations)
*EDM culture (includes terms, logos)
*Possible connections between EDM, drugs and alcohol
*Drug overdoses at EDM events
The session will also include discussions on the impact that EDM events can have on your community and how to proactively educate others.
LUNCH BREAK 12pm-1pm
From 1pm-3pm, participants will hear about coordinating a No Refusal Event. This session will explore:
*The background of Lane County’s first attempt at a No-Refusal DUII event, including the goals of the program, and what resources it took to set up.
*Lessons learned during the run-up to the actual event, including unforeseen backlash in traditional and social media, how it was successfully mitigated, and how it can be avoided during future events.
It is our hope that agencies will take the information presented and tailor it to their specific communities both in an event-specific effort such as a one night No-Refusal, AND in broader terms with regard to their standard protocol regarding DUII suspects who refuse to provide breath samples.
Who should attend: Law enforcement, hospital staff, emergency services, District Attorney Office, city and county government, road departments, ODOT.
