Event description
Lets go fast! Racing and time trials for r/c cars at the Ed Rudolph Velodrome.

About this Event

Howdy Everyone,

What we're here to do, is to do a little friendly racing, and find out how fast your cars will do. We will be running three classes of honest to goodness on-road race cars, so please come out and see the high tech wonders we run the rest of the year. And we'll be opening the track for speed runs between the real racing.

The ultimate goal here is to show off the chicagoland on-road racing community. We've got a whole lot of good racers, nice people, and... well... we're looking for a new facility.

The velodrome is a 384 meter oval, with a nice smooth surface, banking, and good places to stand so you can drive the cars well. It's big. Really big. People on bikes hit 40mph there, so if you've got a screamer of a car, bring it on out.

We will be running VTA (Vintage Trans Am), 21.5 (This includes USGT and 21.5 Touring Car) and Sportsman.

Racing goes quick, and we'll have the track for a few hours, and really, most people don't have real race cars. But I want you to have fun with those too, so we'll open the track between races for you to see just how fast you can go.

It looks like we've got some manufacturer support, so there will be some giveaways to people who've signed up.

DETAILS:

There will be power available, but please bring an extension cord. You should bring a table and chair for your pit if you're going to be serious about this.

VTA, USGT, and Touring Car are terms used by the racing community. If those feel like gibberish to you, they did to me too, don't worry, bring yourself and your car, and we'll get you on the track anyway.

Sportsman is the catchall for "it's a race car, but it doesn't fit into a normal category". So your Kyosho, Vattera, Tamiya, RedCat, Traxxas whatever... well that's where it goes, and you'll get your time to run.

I'm not encouraging it, but for a direct drive car, with a 21.5, around 1.46:1 is the proper gearing. Do with that you will.... Remember there's no prizes for first, just laughter. :-)
